Where and how could narrated presentation be used in education?

Some examples where narrative presentations can be used in the learning process:

  • In blended learning
The advantage of the narrated presentation in blended learning is that students can learn the material at their own pace, in addition to classroom activities. Especially important it could be in vocational education, because many students there are mainly focused on acquiring the professional knowledge and sometimes they have not enough learning skills to learn in the traditional, linear way.
Thus, the narrated presentation can be included perfectly into the traditional teaching process, making it more visual and easier to perceive.

  •  In distance learning applications

Many teachers use daily on-line training platforms like Moodle, Google Classroom, Edmodo, etc. and have been convinced of their effectiveness. These platforms also require different access to materials . Narrated or video presentations come in place of the usual presentations.  This gives students the opportunity to review the lecture materials at their own pace. In distance learning applications, a narrated lecture is a useful complement to the usual reading materials.

  •  For students with accessibility issues

An ordinary presentation does not always achieve the goal if students have visual or auditory problems the screen distance in the classroom, the pace of the speaker, and difficult to perceive content can interfere. A narrated presentation can be watched by the student at his/her own pace, on an adjustable screen, and it can be stopped and reviewed again.

Similarly, this presentation will be suitable for learners who, for various reasons, cannot be in the classroom (mothers who care for young children, students during an illness).

  •  In a flipped classroom

Flipped classroom is an instructional strategy and a type of blended learning that reverses the traditional learning environment by delivering instructional content, often online, outside of the classroom. It moves activities, including those that may have traditionally been considered homework, into the classroom. In a flipped classroom, students watch online lectures or carry out research at home and engage in concepts in the classroom with the guidance of a teacher.

  •  Diversifying learners daily teaching tasks

Students can use narration to complement their daily presentations. It will provide learners with new experiences and enrich technology skills. Moreover, the most successful student presentations can be used on on-line courses, thus facilitating the teacher's work by creating his own teaching materials library.

  •  Especially useful for the presentation of new, specific topics (in the vocational curriculum)

Although more and more good narrated presentations are now available on the Internet, teachers, especially in professional curriculums, often need tailor-made materials that show tiny and specific themes.

From a wide range of audio visual tools narrated presentation would be relatively easy to learn for a teacher who does not specifically experience on technology opportunities because it is based on a familiar environment (PowerPoint).

Teachers of vocational subjects have the opportunity to show students the real working environment, up-to-date technologies, give clear instructions for current work tasks.
