Dear VOCAL Training Participants,

during the training (when we highjacked some time on Wednesday) we talked about the licensing of the re-developed courses that you will be working on together.

In the proposal it states that the end results of this collaborative exercise - the 6 redevelopped courses - will be made available to the participating organisations. However it is not defined what this exactly entails, so we invited you to think about it and consult your colleagues in your institution.

The training materials that we develope within the project and which you are piloting during the training will be openly accessible during and after the project ends. We have decided to ensure out intellectual property rights by using a Creatice Commons license, that requires other who would like to re-use our results to attribute it to the authors and the project that payed for its creation and it also requires them that if they create something out of our materials, they also have to make it available on our terms (with the attribution and no further limitation added).

This licence is an Attribution-Share alike license. What we did not add as a limitation is that the use of our training materials has to be non-commercial. Why? Because it would not allow you to use it in any training that you ask money for and eventualy it limits the scope of its use. For the same reason, we also allow derivatives.

This is the license we also recommend you to use for the 6 re-developed courses.

Please, familiarise yourself a little with the different licenses, discuss the level of openness that your institution is comfortable with regarding sharing the course with your colleagues participating in VOCAL. The courses do not have to be licensed the same, so you are free to tailor them to your will.

We will have a chance to continue this discussion during the Heilbronn training in September, in the meantime, please feel free to share your ideas and discuss here in the forum.

Best regards,

Eva and the team
